Chow-Chow Poriyal


5 and 1/2 Cups of Chopped, Chow Chow (About 4 Large)


1 Tsp Salt
1/2 Cup Water

Add chow chow, water and salt, boil, close the pan and cook for 10 minutes.


1 Tbsp Oil
2 Tsp Urad Dal

3/4 Tsp Mustard Seeds

1 Sprig Curry Leaves
8 Dry Red Chilies, Broken (1 and 1/2 Red Chili / Cup of Vegetable)


15 Pearl Onions, Chopped
1/2 Tsp Salt

1/4 Cup Coconut Powder

Heat oil in a pan, add urad dal, fry till the color of the dal changes, add mustard seeds, when it starts to splutter, add curry leaves and broken chilies. Add onions, salt and saute till the color of the onion changes, about 3 minutes.

Add boiled vegetables and stir fry until the seasoned oil coats the vegetable all over.

Stir in grated coconut.


Yields 3 and 1/4 Cups
